A 6-inch knife was holding me back for 2 years

I used a 6-inch knife for everything until my buddy on a job in Nashville handed me a 12-inch one. Suddenly my mudding went way faster and I had way less sanding to do. What size knife did you guys start with?

My first knife was a 10 inch and I honestly think that 6 inch knives have their place. For tight corners and working around windows a smaller blade is way easier to control without making a mess. I tried a 12 inch on a big wall once and ended up with more gouges cause I couldn't keep the pressure even. Different strokes for different jobs I guess.

My brother tried a 7 inch once and nearly took out a light fixture.
