Update: My boss said 'a clean pump is a happy pump' and I finally get it.

I was on a job near Mobile last month and overheard a guy from another crew say he spends 30 minutes every morning just checking and flushing his pump lines. I always thought that was overkill until our main suction line clogged with a chunk of old piling wood. We lost almost a full day of work clearing it out. Now I do a quick visual and water flush before we even start the engine. It takes five minutes and has saved us two big headaches already. What's your morning check routine look like?

Yeah, that "lost almost a full day" line hits home. We had a pump eat a plastic bag that wrapped around the impeller. The sound it made was awful, like grinding coins. Now my first move is checking the strainer basket for leaves and junk, every single morning without fail. It's stupid simple, but skipping it just once cost us four hours of downtime.

Hate that grinding sound, it's like the pump is screaming in pain. Totally get the morning basket check, turns a big job into a two minute habit. Those four hours you lost really show how the small stuff matters. Makes you never want to skip the simple step again.
