Tried the 'slow swing' trick on a muddy bank and got a surprise

Last Tuesday I was working a small channel near Baton Rouge and the sludge was so thick my cutter kept bogging down. I remembered an old guy telling me to let the swing run at half speed and basically hover instead of forcing the cut. So I tried it for about 20 minutes, and instead of clearing faster, I pulled up a rusted-out bicycle plus a tangle of fishing line that wrapped around my ladder like it was mad at me. Took me an extra hour to unwrap the mess, but the funny part is the kid onshore cheered like I'd won a prize. I guess the lesson is that slow swings can find junk you didn't even know was there, but now I'm wondering if anyone else carries a spare cutting torch just for line and wire wraps. Has that ever happened to you on a routine job?
