Taught myself the wrong way to run a swing ladder for 2 years
I always kept tension on the swing cable while dropping the ladder, thought that was how you control the descent. Last month a veteran operator on the Columbia River job watched me and asked why I was fighting the drum like that. He showed me to let the ladder ride the bottom with slack and only use winch power to lift, and I realized I was grinding the bearing housing for no reason. Anyone else learn a basic move wrong from day one and only find out when an old timer calls it out?
