Rant: Suction line clogged on a job in Biloxi

I was running the 12-inch cutterhead down near the Biloxi channel and suddenly the vacuum dropped to nothing. Spent 45 minutes kicking the suction line before I realized a busted piece of timber had wedged itself in the intake. Had to shut down for two hours to winch it out with a grapple. Anybody got a trick for checking the intake without going in the water?

You ever try using a long pole with a mirror or a GoPro on the end? I read about a guy on the gulf who rigged up a cheap endoscope camera on a pole to check his intake without going in the water. Saves a lot of hassle and keeps you dry. Might be worth trying with the 12-inch cutterhead next time before you start kicking lines.

@the_sam poles just get in the way and you miss half the junk with a camera anyway.
