Pro tip: I thought those new GPS bucket depth trackers were just a gimmick

We were doing a big channel job on the Ohio River last year and the boss insisted we try one. I figured my old marks on the cable were good enough, you know? After a week, the data showed we were over-digging by almost 18 inches in some spots, just from the swing. That's a lot of wasted fuel and time. It paid for itself in saved material costs on that one job. Has anyone else made the switch and seen real numbers like that?

Our dredge super said we burned an extra 300 gallons a day on a similar over-digging habit. Bell.emma, that math still hurts to think about. The tracker showed our swing was basically just stirring up expensive mud soup.

Honestly, how much did that over-digging actually cost in wasted fuel?
