Old hand showed me why I should flush my cooling system every season, not just when it looks dirty

Every season"?? Man that seems extreme. I mean I get that coolant breaks down over time but flushing the whole system every few months sounds like overkill unless you're racing the car or something. Like is this guy running a fleet of taxis in Phoenix or what? I guess if you live somewhere with crazy temperature swings it might make sense but for a normal daily driver that seems like a lot of extra work and money for not much gain.

Yeah so I actually had a buddy who did the whole "every season" coolant thing and it turned out his radiator had a tiny crack he didn't know about. He was just topping it off with water and flushing it constantly thinking he was being proactive, but really he was just masking a bigger problem. @tessa_rivera you're right that sounds like a waste of time for most people unless your car is literally overheating all the time or you live in Death Valley or something. I mean I flush mine maybe every 2-3 years and it's still pink and clean when I drain it. Plus all that extra coolant has to go somewhere, and dumping it down the drain is bad for the environment.
