Lost $300 on a cheap swing valve kit, should have just paid up front
Bought a budget rebuild kit for a 6 inch swing valve back in March and it blew out the packing within two weeks. The parts alone cost me 300 bucks and then another full day of labor swapping it again. Anyone else had luck with those off brand kits or is it just me?

Man, I gotta push back on this one. Cheap kits are fine if you know what you're doing and torque everything right. I've ran budget packing on 8 inch valves for years, swapped em out every six months and never had a blowout. Sounds like you might've skipped cleaning the stem or used the wrong grease on install. That failure ain't on the parts, it's on the prep work.
