Just realized that old timer was right about pump cavitation
A retired guy named Frank at the coffee shop told me to always check the suction hose for air leaks before starting. I ignored him for six months until I burned out a $1,200 pump on a job near Baton Rouge. Who else has gotten burned by ignoring advice from the old hands?

Yeah Frank probably saved you more than just the pump cost - pretty sure that's his retirement hobby, saving people from themselves. I swear those old timers have a sixth sense for equipment failure. Next time I'll just hand Frank my checkbook and let him run the whole job.
