I was walking along the old canal path in Lowell last weekend and saw they're using a mini dredge I've never seen before, about the size of a riding mower.

Yeah, the size is crazy. I saw a video of a guy using one that fit in a backpack to pull gold flakes out of a creek bed. He was just standing in knee deep water with this tiny motor and hose setup. It looked more like a weird vacuum cleaner than the big industrial dredges you picture.
