A chat with a retired operator on the Columbia River got me thinking
I was fueling up in Astoria last week and got talking to an old timer who ran a cutter suction dredge for 30 years. He said, 'We used to call the river bottom the book, and every bucket read a page.' It hit different because I've always just focused on the yardage targets. Made me wonder how many of you pay real attention to what the spoil is telling you about the cut. Anyone have a system for logging material changes beyond just the production log?

My system is mostly just trying to remember what I had for lunch.

What if forgetting lunch is your brain's way of making room for something better? I read that our memory clears out small stuff to focus on what matters. Maybe your system is working right by letting that go. It's kind of a relief not to hold onto every little detail.
