Wish I'd listened sooner about dimension layers

An old senior drafter at my last shop in Phoenix told me to put all my dimensions on a separate frozen layer, not just a different color. I blew it off for 6 months until a revision came through and I had to re-pick every single dim after shifting the model. Has anyone else had a similar wake-up call on layer management?

Yeah I learned that one the hard way too when I accidentally moved a dim with the object snap on.

Wait, you mean there's a WAY to NOT accidentally ruin your dims with object snap? I thought that was just a RITE of passage in CAD. Every time I put a dimension on a block that's snapping to everything, I feel like I'm playing a game of "will the dim survive this click". I've gotten to the point where I just turn SNAP off entirely and rely on pure HATE for precision. Nothing like placing a dim exactly where you WANT it and watching it attach to some random vertex half a mile away.
