Went back to the old parallel bar after my digital protractor glitched twice
Had a job in Des Moines last Tuesday where the digital unit read 3 degrees off on a second floor layout, wasted half the morning before I caught it. Swapped to my 15 year old parallel bar and finished the whole set in 40 minutes. Anybody else keep a manual backup even though the tech is supposed to be more accurate?

That bit about wasting half the morning before you caught it, that's the part that gets me. I had a laser level do something like that on a deck job, read fine all morning then drifted about an inch and a half over thirty feet by lunch. Spent two hours redoing stringers that were already dead on. Now I check it against a plain old torpedo level every couple hours, silly as that sounds. The fancy stuff is great until it isn't, and you don't know which day that's gonna be.
