That senior drafter's advice on layer naming just bit me hard

Last month a retired drafter in the local guild told me to stop using generic layer names like 'details' and start using project-specific ones, but I figured it was just old habit talk. I kept my usual setup on a big commercial remodel, and now the structural engineer can't find half my sheets because he's searching for 'wall_framing' while I've got it buried under 'DET_03_A'. Took me two hours yesterday to walk him through every file, and he still missed a callout that's going to cost the client extra time. Has anyone else ignored advice from the old-timers and regretted it, or is this just me being stubborn?
