Switched to digital calipers after 8 years of dial ones and it backfired on me
I got a set of Mitutoyo digitals for a job in Austin last week, figured it was time to upgrade. Ended up misreading a 0.005 tolerance because the battery was low and I didn't notice the warning symbol. Anyone else run into issues with digital gear dying at the worst time?

A buddy of mine had a battery die mid-measurement on a rush job and had to redo the whole batch.

Nah I gotta disagree a little, you just have to check the battery indicator like you'd zero a dial. Dial calipers can drift out of zero too and nobody blames the tool for that.
