Spent 3 years ignoring layer settings in my CAD program

I always thought setting up layers was a waste of time until my boss made me fix someone else's file where everything was on layer 0. Took me 8 hours to untangle it all, and now I never skip layer setups. Has anyone else had a nightmare project from bad layering habits?

8 hours just to sort through layers? That's a brutal way to learn that lesson, honestly. I'd probably have cried about 4 hours in and just started a new file from scratch. Your boss sounds like they really wanted you to feel that pain firsthand.

You ever spend 8 hours untangling a mess and realize you could've just rebuilt it in 30 minutes... @the_abby? That's the kind of pain that sticks with you, like learning to check your layers the hard way. I swear, I would've hit file - new after hour 3, cried into my coffee, and started fresh. Your boss probably figured you needed that lesson to remember next time... and I'd be lying if I said I haven't done similar things to myself out of sheer stubbornness. At least you got a good story out of it, right?
