Old lead drafter's rule about hand sketches still bugs me, is it outdated?
Back in 2009, a senior drafter in St. Louis told me to always do a full hand sketch before touching CAD, and I still do it for every job, but last week a junior guy said I was wasting 30 minutes per part, so which side is right for modern shops?

Does 30 minutes per part even matter if you catch one mistake that would've cost hours in rework? For simple stuff yeah it's probably overkill, but for a complex part with tight tolerances that sketch time is cheap insurance. So maybe the real answer is it depends on the part, not some blanket rule from 2009.
