Finally got the hang of dimension layers in AutoCAD after years of avoiding them

I always just threw dimensions on whatever layer was active, usually the main floor plan layer. But last week I had to revise a set of plans for a warehouse layout and all the dims were cluttering everything up. So I spent an afternoon moving every single dimension to its own layer. It took maybe 2 hours but now I can toggle them on and off and it's a game changer for checking clearances. Does anyone else have a stuff layer they stubbornly refuse to set up?

Oh come on, layers are like the easiest thing to set up.

Wait, are we talking about the same layers? Because the ones I've used always take forever to get right. I've spent way too much time messing with opacity and blending modes just to make a simple shadow. They sell it as easy but there's always some hidden trick you gotta figure out.
