Field sketching saved my as-built process after a messy site visit

Last month I had to re-measure a warehouse in Dayton because my laser disto kept bouncing off some racking. I spent 2 hours fighting it, then pulled out my graph paper and just sketched the whole slab with notes. Turned out way faster to draft from later than trying to sort a dozen numbers. Anyone else bail on tech and go old school when a site gets tricky?

honestly the laser is great until it isnt and then its just dead weight in your hand lol. there's something about scribbling dimensions on a crumpled page that just makes your brain process the space better. i've had jobs where i took 50 photos and walked out with zero usable info, but a quick sketch with arrows and a "check this" note saves my butt every time. tech fails when conditions get messy, paper never does. plus you can shove it in your pocket and pull it out at your desk without charging anything. old school wins when the site fights back, no argument from me.
