Used to skip dollar store spices, now I'm a believer after one tip
My neighbor Maria told me to buy the spices in the little bags instead of the jars, said they taste fresher and cost like 50 cents each. I tried her advice last month with garlic powder and chili flakes, and honestly they're way better than the jarred ones I was avoiding. Anyone else had luck with the bagged spices or am I just crazy?

Hang on, I gotta push back a little on the bags being fresher. The bags are actually the same spice as the jars most of the time, the only difference is the container. What makes them taste better is that you're buying a smaller amount that you'll use up faster, so it doesn't sit around and get stale on your shelf for months. I fell for that same idea until I realized the jarred stuff from the same brand is literally the same batch, just packaged differently. The real trick is buying whole spices and grinding them yourself, that's when you get the real freshness kick. But yeah, for convenience the bags are a solid deal, just don't buy into the freshness myth.

Bought the bagged cumin last week, threw half of it right into a pot of black beans. Made the biggest difference, way more punch than the jar I had been nursing for like a year. Also grabbed the bagged cinnamon for my oatmeal, tastes like actual cinnamon instead of dusty cardboard. I just make sure to use them quick, like within a month or two. That's the real secret, not the bag itself.
