TIL the dollar store canned chicken is nothing like the name brand after 6 months
I stocked up on 8 cans of their house brand chicken back in February for emergency meals and opened one last night for a casserole. The texture was mushy and it had this weird metallic taste that the first can I used in March definitely did not have. Has anyone else noticed dollar store canned meats going bad faster than grocery store stuff or did I just get a bad batch?

Different brands can use different suppliers and that matters a lot for shelf life. Store brands at dollar stores are often packed in smaller facilities with less quality control. Six months is getting close to the edge for any canned meat in my experience, especially if your pantry gets warm.

Didn't I read something about dollar stores sourcing their canned goods from smaller packers that don't have the same standards as the big brands? Might be worth checking the sell-by date on the rest of your stash just in case.
