TIL the 99 Cents Only store has better spices than the name brand place

My neighbor Marie told me last Tuesday that she dumps out the big brand paprika and refills the jar with the dollar store kind, and I laughed until I tried it on my chili. The dollar store stuff has way more flavor and it costs $1.25 versus $4.50 at Kroger, does anyone else skip the fancy aisle for the basic rack?

Huh, I've got the opposite experience with the dollar store spices, they always taste kind of flat and dusty to me. I grabbed their oregano once for a pasta sauce and it was like sprinkling sawdust, no smell at all. Maybe it depends on the location or the batch, but I'll stick with the pricier jars for the stuff I actually use a lot of.
