My grandma saw my dollar store pantry and said it looked like 1974, and I can't stop thinking about it
She was over at my place in Toledo helping me sort coupons and when I opened the cabinet full of $1 rice bags, canned beans, and powdered milk she just laughed and said it looked exactly like her kitchen back in 1974 when money was tight. It hit me different because I always thought of dollar store cooking as a newer thing for people my age, but she told me half her meals back then came from the same kind of stuff, just in different boxes and cans. Does anyone else have an older relative who grew up cooking this way and has tips that still work today?
