My coworker swore the $1.25 pasta sauce was just as good as the name brand. He was dead wrong.
My buddy Dave kept telling me to try the Dollar Tree pasta sauce, said it was basically the same thing for a buck. So last Tuesday I made a whole spaghetti dinner with it, used their noodles too. Dude, the sauce tasted like sugary ketchup with zero herbs, I had to dump half a jar of garlic powder in there to make it edible. Ended up throwing out the leftovers after one bite the next day. Lesson learned, some things you just gotta spend the extra $2 on. Anyone else have a dollar store ingredient that totally let them down?

Dollar store canned tomatoes are just salty water masquerading as veggies.

Right, that Dollar Tree sauce is exactly what you described. Their canned tomatoes are basically what umamurphy said, just salty water that barely passes for anything real. I tried their pasta once and it turned into a gluey mess before it was even done cooking. Honestly, you're better off buying the store brand at a regular grocery store, it's still cheap but actually tastes like food.
