My $3 can opener died mid-meal so I tried the Dollar Tree one, here's what went wrong
Last Tuesday I was making the bean and rice bowls I do every week, all stuff from Dollar Tree, and my can opener just stopped gripping the can. It was a $3 one from there about 5 weeks back. I stood in the kitchen at 7pm with a half open can of black beans and no backup, so I grabbed a butter knife and pried the lid up enough to dump it out. The beans were fine but I got a nice cut on my thumb from the edge. The next day I went back and bought the $1.25 model thinking it might hold up longer. It's lighter, the handle feels cheap, but it actually cut through 4 cans without slipping. I think the trick is you have to squeeze the handles hard and go slow, not crank it fast like the old one. Has anyone found a cheap opener from the dollar store that actually lasts more than a month or two?
