Just realized I've been overcooking my dollar store rice this whole time...

I kept getting mushy rice from the 99 cent bags at my local Dollar Tree, so I tried lowering the heat to a simmer and using exactly 2 cups of water per cup of rice instead of the package says. Now it finally comes out fluffy like real rice, anyone else have a simple fix for cheap staples?

Used to think people complaining about cheap rice were just being dramatic. Figured rice was rice and you just boil it until it's done. Then I grabbed a bag of that Dollar Tree stuff out of desperation and ended up with a pot of glue. Tried your water ratio trick last week and it actually made a real difference. Never thought I'd be adjusting my technique for rice that costs less than a candy bar but here we are.

Oh MAN the dollar store rice struggle is REAL. That watery mush is such a bummer when you're just trying to stretch a buck. Your fix sounds spot on, glad you finally got that fluffy texture!
