Got dragged to a potluck in Bakersfield and my $7 spam fried rice disappeared before the $40 catered tray
Went to my cousin's birthday potluck in Bakersfield back in April and I was broke so I threw together spam fried rice with a can of spam, a bag of frozen peas and carrots, and day old rice from the dollar store. Cost me maybe $7 total. The $40 tray of catered pasta sat there half full while people scraped my pan clean and three different folks asked me for the recipe. I felt dumb for being embarrassed about bringing dollar store food. Now I do a cheap rice or bean dish for every party instead of stressing about what to buy. What dollar store dish do you bring when you know there's gonna be expensive food there?
