Week my kitchen ceiling caved in while I was eating soup
The upstairs toilet flange let go on a Monday, and by Thursday I had a 3 foot hole in my ceiling, a wet soup bowl, and my neighbor Gary yelling 'that's why you use a wax ring with a horn' through the window, so now I'm wondering if anyone else has had a repair snowball into a full replumb.
That wax ring with a horn comment from Gary is killing me, cause he's not even wrong but who yells that through a window. The part I wanna know is how the flange "let go" in the first place. Was it the old cast iron one that finally rusted through, or did somebody before you set a toilet on a broken flange and just crank it down and hope? Cause those two things lead to very different bills. If the flange itself is shot and it's cast iron, you're looking at cutting into the stack, not just popping a new ring on. Did the plumber actually pull the toilet and show you the flange, or did they just look at the wet ceiling and start talking full replumb?
