Water hammer woke up my whole house at 5am. Fixed it with a $3 part.
I was standing in my basement last Tuesday after a loud bang from the pipes woke everyone up, and I realized the water hammer was getting worse from a loose washer in the main supply valve. I shut off the water, opened the line, and found the rubber washer had split in half. Has anyone else dealt with this using just a new washer versus those fancy hammer arrestors?

Started fixing one thing and ended up down a rabbit hole of every other valve in the house.

Oh, the old 'while I'm at it' curse. That phrase gets me every time." Yeah, that's how a simple washer replacement turned into me replacing every supply line in my kitchen and both bathrooms. But you know, that "every other valve" part is probably a good thing. If one was bad, the rest are probably close behind. I'd rather do them all now than have a leak at 2am on a Sunday.
