Warning: do not skip the vapor barrier under a concrete slab just because your uncle says it is fine
My uncle has been pouring concrete for 30 years in Tucson and he told me I could skip the 6 mil poly under my 12x16 shed slab, that it was 'extra money for nothing' in dry dirt. Two summers later the slab started sweating and my stored tools got rust spots, plus a corner of the pad heaved up about half an inch. Turns out the ground here holds moisture way more than he remembered, and moisture was coming straight up through 5 inches of crete. Cost me $280 to tear out the bad corner and redo a section. Anyone else deal with a family member's old school advice that did not match the actual ground you are building on?
