Tried spray foam in a wall cavity and got a nasty surprise

I sprayed expanding foam into a gap around a window frame in my 1940s house in Philly and it blew the drywall off the wall. Turns out I used the wrong type for that gap size and it expanded way more than expected. Has anyone else had an insulation project go sideways like that?

Close but not quite on the door thing. Expanding foam can definitely blow stuff out but taking a door right off its hinges usually means the frame itself got pushed out of square. More likely your cousin used the wrong foam on a door frame and it bowed the whole thing inward so the door wouldn't close anymore. That's actually a common mistake with the high-expansion stuff around doors and windows. Gotta use the low-expansion window and door foam for those spots or you'll be fixing framing instead of insulation.

My cousin did that once. Took the door right off the hinges.
