Tried painting my kitchen cabinets with a roller and it looked terrible
I thought I'd save time and just roll on the paint like I do with walls. Big mistake. After 2 hours of work, the cabinets had this weird orange peel texture and brush marks everywhere. My husband walked in and asked if a cat did it. I had to sand the whole thing down and start over with a foam brush. Learned the hard way that cabinet painting needs thin coats and proper prep. Anyone else ruin a project by cutting corners like I did?

The foam brush thing is actually not always the best move either lol. I found that a high density foam mini roller with the right paint additive works way better for avoiding orange peel. Thin coats and letting them fully dry between layers is the real secret here.

The roller trick really saved my hide on a project where I kept getting those bumps no matter what I did. I switched to a microfiber mini roller instead of foam and it laid down smoother than I expected. Thin coats like you said is the whole game, I would wait almost a full day between each pass cause I'm impatient but learned the hard way. Orange peel drove me crazy until I figured out that paint temp matters too, kept it around 70 degrees and it flowed out way nicer. Your point about additives is spot on, a little Floetrol goes a long way if you mix it right.
