My brother-in-law told me to use a 3/4 inch plywood subfloor under tile, not to cheap out.

I went with 5/8 inch to save $200 and now I've got a cracked grout line after 8 months. Anyone know a good way to fix this without a full redo?

My uncle's bathroom floor in Phoenix did the same thing. I always thought the subfloor specs were overkill until I saw his cracked tiles. That extra plywood layer isn't just for show, it stops the floor from flexing. You can patch the grout but it'll probably crack again if the floor moves. Really wish I'd listened to that advice on my own project last year.

Who thought a quarter inch could make such a big difference (I sure didn't)?
