My brand new backsplash tiles started falling off the wall at 2am last night

I was lying in bed and heard this weird clatter from the kitchen (thought it was a mouse) and found three subway tiles face down on the counter. Turns out I didn't clean the drywall dust off before applying the thinset, so now I get to chisel off the whole row and redo it tomorrow. Anyone else made this bonehead mistake with tile prep?

Oh man that is brutal! I did the exact same thing with my kitchen backsplash last year. Spent a whole weekend tiling and about three days later I came home to find a bunch of tiles just sitting on the stove. I was so mad at myself because I knew I should have wiped the wall down first but I was in a hurry. Ended up having to scrape off half the wall and redo it all. The worst part was the grout was already setting so I had to chip that out too. At least now I always clean the wall with a damp sponge before I start anything, learned that lesson the hard way.

My buddy Rick had the same issue with his bathroom tile (he never listens to advice).
