My bathroom floor tile job in the master bath cracked after a single winter.

I laid down a full grid of 12x24 porcelain tiles last fall, but the grout lines started popping by February. Turns out I didn't leave a big enough expansion gap around the edges where it meets the wall. I used a 1/4 inch gap, but with our house in Chicago and the floor heating, it needed more. Has anyone else had this happen with large format tile in a room with temperature swings?

Popping grout lines" sounds like a pretty minor issue honestly.

Ugh, that's the worst! It's crazy how the small details you never think about end up being the most important. Like when you skip the primer on a wall and the paint peels in a year, or you don't seal a deck and it turns gray. It always feels fine until the weather changes and everything goes wrong. That expansion gap is one of those invisible things that makes all the difference.
