Keep seeing everyone rave about open shelving in kitchens but I just don't get it

After wiping dust off my grandma's dishes every weekend for a year before I finally took her shelves down last month, I'm convinced they're just a magnet for grease and grime that nobody wants to clean.

Did you have any kind of ventilation fan above your stove? Mine collects most of the grease vapor before it gets to the shelves.

Yep, outdoor venting makes a huge difference compared to recirculating ones!
