Just realized my garage shelf was slowly sagging for months

My neighbor pointed out a slight bow in my plywood shelf while we were grabbing tools, and now I have to redo the whole thing with a 2x4 frame. Anyone else catch small structural issues way too late?

Honestly I used to think plywood was fine for everything but now I'm definitely overbuilding all my garage shelves after seeing that one sag lol. That 2x4 frame will hold up forever though.

Oh how long did it take you to notice it? I had a similar thing happen with a workbench I built years ago. I kept wondering why my level kept rolling off and it turned out the whole top had a slow dip in the middle. It's frustrating because you think you built it solid and then time just shows you where you skimped. The 2x4 frame is the way to go though, I did that on my last shelf and it's still dead flat after five years.
