I finally understand why my dad insisted on priming every surface twice
So last weekend I was helping my buddy paint his garage in Denver and he skipped primer altogether on this old drywall patch. Dude just slapped cheap paint over it and called it good. Two days later the patch is totally flashing through like a ghost lol. I kept quiet but man I heard my dad's voice in my head saying "prime it twice or cry twice". Has anyone else had a paint fail that made you think back to something your parents taught you?

Primer is a scam to sell you more paint. Quality paint sticks fine.

Started rolling my eyes every time my dad brought up the "primer gospel" (his words, not mine) until I painted my own bathroom last year. I figured one coat of that expensive "paint and primer in one" would be fine over the old dark blue. Nope. Three coats later and I could still see streaks of blue peeking through like a bad tattoo. Dad came over, didn't say a word, just handed me a gallon of proper primer and walked away. That was the moment I realized he wasn't just being stubborn, he was saving me from doing everything twice. Now I'm that person who primes everything, even stuff that probably doesn't need it, just to be safe.
