Found out the hard way that old houses in Columbus have no studs behind the plaster, just lath and 2 hours of my life gone
Pulled a cabinet off my kitchen wall last Saturday and the whole thing came off with just a screwdriver and some pulling. I stood there holding it looking at a hole where I expected 2x4s and saw nothing but thin wood strips and hair and old wallpaper. Did some digging online after and found a stat that over 40 percent of homes built before 1950 in my part of Ohio used lath and plaster with no real framing behind interior walls in spots. My house is from 1938. Had that cabinet loaded with mason jars for 3 years and it was basically hanging off a wish and some plaster keys. Now I'm going around the house knocking on walls like an idiot trying to figure out where I can actually hang anything heavy. Anyone else in an old place deal with this and what did you use for anchors that actually held?
