The day I realized I'd been cutting crown molding upside down for 7 years
I was helping my buddy frame out his basement in Wichita last spring, and he stopped me mid-cut and just laughed. He said 'dude, you're holding that thing backwards, the spring angle is off.' I had been cutting crown molding with the bottom edge against the fence instead of the top edge since I started doing trim work. Made every corner gap look terrible and I just thought that was how it was supposed to fit. Has anyone else discovered they were doing some basic step completely backward for years?

Funny enough I've done crown molding the exact same way for 15 years and never had a problem, maybe you just weren't working the gaps right.
