Showerthought: I just hit exactly 500 board feet of reclaimed barn wood used in my house.

Counting it up made me see how much I've saved by sourcing it myself from old farms around here, but man, what's the best way to clean off decades of grime without damaging the patina?

What's your secret? I tried cleaning some old siding with a power washer once and basically made instant driftwood, so my advice is probably not the best. A soft brush and some mild soapy water worked way better for me on the next batch.

Yeah, "instant driftwood" is the perfect way to put it, @oliver811. I read that using too much pressure or holding it too close just shreds old wood. The soft brush method seems like the safer move for sure.
