Neighbor's 20-year old cedar deck made me question my pressure washer obsession

Bob from two doors down said he hasn't touched his deck with anything but a broom and hose since 2004, and now I'm wondering if I've been blasting away good wood this whole time with my 3000 psi washer - anyone else scale back their cleaning routine after seeing old growth hold up better?

Bro I literally just pressure washed my deck last weekend and now I'm lowkey panicking seeing this. 20 years with just a broom and hose? That's wild, maybe I've been slowly killing my wood for no reason. Definitely gonna rethink my whole approach before I attack the fence this summer.

Honestly I pressure washed my deck so hard last year I carved a little trench into one of the boards and just called it a "water feature." Now I'm staring at Bob's 20 year old cedar like it's a museum exhibit while my deck looks like it went through a car wash with a sandblaster attachment. Ngl I think we've all been tricked into thinking brute force equals clean. Maybe I'll give my pressure washer a time out and see if my fence forgives me.
