Just realized my grout lines looked bad because I used the wrong float the whole time
I was tiling the backsplash in my kitchen last weekend and about halfway through I noticed the grout was sinking into some joints while sitting on top of others. Kept blaming the grout mix until my neighbor stopped by and pointed at my float, a cheap rubber one I grabbed for $9 at the hardware store. Turns out you need a hard float for spreading and a rubber one only for cleanup, so I was basically pushing grout around with the wrong tool for 3 rows. I scraped those rows out with a utility knife, remixed a smaller batch, and redid them with the proper float the next morning. Took me about 90 extra mins but the lines finally look even. Anyone else learn tile tools the hard way like this?
