Just got a shock opening my fuse box yesterday

I was swapping out an old breaker in my basement and figured I'd look at the main panel while I was at it. Found out the previous owner had wired a 30 amp breaker with 14 gauge wire, which is only rated for 15 amps max. I read about this in a home inspection guide from 2022 after I pulled the cover off and saw the wire size difference. That thing could have started a fire any time we ran the AC and the microwave at the same time. Has anyone else found sketchy wiring in their house after the fact?

Yeah, I used to think electrical work was no big deal until I found the exact same thing in my place. Definitely changed my mind real quick after that.

Oh man, that's rough. I feel you. It's one of those things you just don't think about until it's right in front of you. Then you realize how much could have gone wrong. Good on you for checking it out and fixing it. Better safe than sorry with that stuff, seriously.
