I finally looked up the real weight of a sheet of drywall
I was helping a friend hang a ceiling in his garage last month and my back was killing me after two panels. I got curious and checked the manufacturer specs online. A standard 4x8 sheet of half-inch drywall is actually 54 pounds, not the 40 I always guessed. That extra weight adds up fast when you're holding it overhead. Anyone have a good trick for solo ceiling work besides renting a lift?

Man, that weight difference is no joke. I saw a video where a guy used a dead blow hammer to tap sheets into place, which helps when you're alone. @miller.tara's T-brace idea is solid for getting that first edge secured.
