Hot take: I thought painting over wallpaper was always a bad idea
I was helping my buddy in his 1970s ranch house in Akron and we peeled a corner of the kitchen wallpaper, which tore the drywall paper underneath. His dad, a contractor with 40 years of work, told us to just seal it with Zinsser Gardz, sand it smooth, and paint right over the rest. The finish came out perfect and it saved us a whole weekend of steaming and scraping. Has anyone else had a good result painting over old wallpaper instead of removing it?

Seal it first, then paint. Works fine.

Yeah, that extra step really locks in the color.
