Had to choose between sanding drywall compound by hand or renting a power sander for my basement project
Went with the hand sanding to save $45 and after 3 hours my arms feel like noodles but at least I didn't have to deal with cleaning a rental machine, anyone else regret being cheap on sanding?

Man, "arms feel like noodles" really hit home for me... I went through the exact same thing with my attic drywall and told myself it was just a weekend project. Four hours in and I couldn't even lift a glass of water without my hands shaking like I was nervous. Ended up with this weird muscle soreness in my forearms that lasted like 4 days, had to explain to my wife that no, I didn't start some secret workout routine. The worst part is I kept telling myself "just one more section" and then had to stop every 10 minutes to shake out my arms like an idiot. Pretty sure I saved that $45 but lost a week's worth of normal arm function in the process...

Four days of sore forearms from hanging drywall? Come on. That's just being out of shape. Drink some water, stretch it out. You'll be fine tomorrow.
