Wasted $220 on a heat gun that melted my asphalt patch job
Back in March I bought this industrial heat gun from a big box store in Akron thinking it'd speed up crack sealing. I got so confident I used it on a cold morning patch, and it turned the whole area into a sticky mess that took me 3 hours to scrape off. The $12 torch from my plumbing drawer would've worked WAY better if I just read the product warnings first. Has anyone else ruined a patch trying to speed things up with the wrong gear?

What temp was that heat gun actually putting out compared to the torch you normally use? Sounds like you cooked the binder right out of it instead of just warming the surface.
