Hot take: filling the crack where my blacktop meets the garage slab took me 4 hours instead of 20 minutes
Kept trying to stuff the gap with cold patch and it just fell through into the void under the slab over and over, so I finally jammed in backer rod first and it sealed in one pass. Anyone else got a gap that swallows everything you throw at it, or is it just my 1970s slab?

How wide is that gap at the widest point, like did you actually measure it? My 72 slab had a spot near the garage door where the blacktop had sunk a good inch and a half below the concrete lip, and nothing I poured in there ever stayed put either. Backer rod makes sense because it gives the patch something to grab onto instead of just draining down a hole forever. What I'm curious about is whether you went with the rod sized to the gap or slightly bigger so it wedged tight, because if it's loose down there you'll be right back at square one by next spring. Did you also check if water was sitting under the slab, since that void has to be coming from somewhere?
