My monitor arm bracket snapped after 4 months, cheap fix saved the desk
Last Tuesday I was adjusting my dual monitor setup and the gas spring arm gave out, the clamp bracket cracked right at the pivot point. The whole left monitor dropped about 6 inches before I caught it, scared me half to death. Turns out the metal was just too thin on the budget arm I bought for $45. I took the broken piece to a local hardware shop in Portland and found a steel replacement bracket for $12, drilled two new holes and bolted it through a piece of plywood under the desk. Now it holds both monitors steady, no wobble at all. Has anyone else had luck reinforcing cheap monitor arms with extra hardware instead of buying a new one?
